The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has on Friday assured pensioners in the state of his administration’s plans to ensure the payment of outstanding gratuities pegged at about N14bn.
Sequence to that, the governor, Ahmad Aliyu, directed the release of N500m every month for the payment of gratuities in the state.
He gave the directive after the presentation of a report on the verification of unpaid gratuities between 2015 and 2023.
The report, which was presented to the governor in his office by the state Accountant-General, Alhaji Umar, said the state had N14 billion in accumulated gratuities, affirming that no payment was made since 2015.
Receiving the report, Governor Aliyu assured that his administration would ensure that the sum of N4bn would be released for the payment of gratuities before the end of the year.
“The sum of N500m would be released every month, beginning from May 29. This is to put a smile on the faces of our retired civil servants and their families.
“As I receive this report, I hereby direct the release of the sum of N4bn for this year to offset the backlog of accumulated gratuities,” he said.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to use the money in a manner that would be beneficial to their respective families.
