The Peoples Democratic Party, the immediate former governor of the state, and Senator Aminu Tambuwal have come under fire from the Sokoto State Government for their alleged rigging of the 2023 governorship election.
In a statement, the State's Commissioner of Information, Sambo Danchadi, stated that the main opposition party must be delusional to think it won the 2023 election in the state.
In a recent speech to party members and supporters in Sokoto, Tambuwal asserted that the PDP was cheated out of victory in the state's 2023 governorship race.
However, the APC stated that the assertion that the poll was "manipulated" to harm Alhaji Sa'aidu Umar, the PDP candidate, was absurd and offensive to thousands of Sokoto voters.
The commissioner said the PDP was rejected at the poll by the people due to its abysmal performance while in power.
“For the former governor to state that PDP won the 2023 governorship election in the state but was robbed of victory amounted to the desecration of the holy month,” Danchadi said.
He said the PDP only won the majority of votes in five local government areas out of the 23 local government areas in the state.
The commissioner further noted that the APC not only won the election but had justified its victory by addressing the issues over which the election was contested.
