The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) has urged Nigerian firms to strategically prepare themselves to seize the expanding opportunities presented by its deepwater and shallow offshore oil and gas projects.
The Managing Director of SNEPCo, Ronald Adams, made this appeal during the fifth edition of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF), which took place in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The three-day NOGOF 2025, organized by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), is focused on the theme: ‘Driving Investment and Production Growth: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry Through Indigenous Capacity Development’.
Adams, represented by Charles Oranyeli, the Head of Supply Chain at SNEPCo, highlighted the potential of future projects such as Bonga South West Aparo, Bonga North, and the life extension of Bonga Main to enhance local capacity and improve the technical skills of Nigerian companies.
“With the Bonga development, which was Nigeria’s first deepwater oilfield exploration and production project, SNEPCo has played a significant role in benefiting Nigerian enterprises, and we anticipate that they will be ready to embrace more opportunities,” Adams remarked.
He emphasized that Nigerian firms could enhance their skills and continue providing services in logistics, drilling, fabrication, subsea manifold construction, mooring and loading systems, pressure vessels, and gas processing equipment for deepwater projects.
Additionally, there are opportunities in procurement and civil works for shallow water projects.
Since it began production at Bonga in 2005, SNEPCo has been committed to enhancing the abilities of local contractors and service providers by supporting workforce development and establishing efficient systems aimed at completing projects safely, effectively, and within budget.
Adams noted that these initiatives have empowered Nigerian companies to take on essential roles in the safe operation of the Bonga Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, which celebrated a milestone with the production of its one-billionth barrel of oil on February 3, 2023.
“SNEPCo views the development of Nigerian content as a crucial business strategy and not merely a regulatory obligation, and we will continue to assist our companies in assuming even greater responsibilities in supporting oil and gas operations,” he further added.
As one of the event's sponsors, SNEPCo reaffirms its commitment to national economic advancement and community development through an exhibition booth dedicated to these goals.
