No fewer than six people were reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be armed herders in a renewed attack on two communities in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The two attacks, occured in Iwari and Olegagbane communities of the local government area, according to a local reports.
A resident, who did not want her name mentioned said the incident which occured in Iwari community, had one person killed and five others lost their lives in the Olegagbane community.
She said, “Some armed invaders attacked the Iwari community on Friday, killed one person and injured several others. The same day, they moved to the Olegagbane community where they killed five people.”
The Chairman of the LGA, Phillip Ebenyakwu, also confirmed the incidents and expressed concern over incessant attacks in the area.
He said, “Yet the incident is confirmed. The attackers came, killed, stole, and looted before they fled the affected communities.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Catherine Anene, said she was yet to get report of the incident.
