Shooting At Louisville Bank, Kentucky, Leaves Five Dead And Six Injured

POSTED ON April 10, 2023 •   World      BY Akinbohun Samuel

A shooting occurred at a bank in Louisville, Kentucky, leaving at least five people dead and six injured, including a police officer. The incident took place at the Old National Bank in the downtown area of the city. Heavily armed police were seen cordoning off the commercial property in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Members of the public have been advised to stay away from the area while the investigation is ongoing.

The Louisville Police were first alerted to an active shooter situation at around 08:30 local time and arrived at the scene within minutes. Upon arrival, they encountered ongoing gunfire, according to Deputy Police Chief Paul Humphrey. While the police have confirmed that the suspect has died, it is unclear whether they are being counted among the five fatalities. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and authorities are yet to release details of the suspect.

The FBI has joined the investigation, and Governor Andy Beshear has requested prayers for the families affected by the shooting. Craig Greenberg, the mayor of Louisville, also visited the site soon after the incident. The location of the shooting is close to several popular venues, including the Louisville Slugger Field baseball stadium and the Kentucky International Convention Centre.

Eyewitness accounts of the shooting remain scarce. However, footage from the scene shows a heavy police presence, with damaged glass and discarded medical equipment at one location. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
