The Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has described Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as qualified to contest for the Lagos State governorship position.
Olawande made this assertion during his appearance on the Mic On podcast amid growing speculation about Tinubu’s potential gubernatorial ambition in 2027.
Olawande directly addressed the rumors, stressing Seyi’s preparedness for leadership.
“He is not too young to be a governor,” the minister stated, adding that Seyi possesses the qualifications and training needed to thrive in public office. “
He is a well-trained young man who has supported many young individuals even before his father became President,” Olawande remarked.
He also emphasized Tinubu’s dedication to leadership and his eagerness to aid in Nigeria’s progress.
Speculation regarding Seyi Tinubu’s potential candidacy for the Lagos governorship started in 2024 following endorsements from groups like the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL).
Despite these endorsements, Seyi Tinubu has kept quiet on the issue, neither confirming nor denying any political aspirations.
The Youth Development Minister was quick to clarify that the younger Tinubu is not behind the campaigns.
“Seyi is not the one orchestrating the campaign to become the next governor of Lagos State,” Olawande stated, distancing him from the ongoing advocacy by various groups.
