The trial of Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has allegedly been postponed to Wednesday, May 24, 2023, by Justice Adeola Olatubosun of the Chief Magistrates Court in Yaba, Lagos State.
Recall that Rocketparrot reported the news of Seun Kuti, an Afrobeat musician, who was arrested for assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland bridge.
According to a source who requested anonymity and spoke to PUNCH on condition of anonymity, the judge's absence from the court caused the trial, which was scheduled to begin today, May 23, 2023, to be postponed.
The judge is not present, thus the trial has been postponed to tomorrow, May 24, 2023, the insider claimed.
The manager of Seun Kuti couldn't be reached as of the time of this report because his phone was off.
However, when PUNCH reached out to Seun’s elder sister, Yeni Kuti, who is currently out of the country, she revealed that, as of the time of this report, she had no knowledge of the adjournment.
“I have no knowledge of the adjournment, his wife has not reached out to me today; she has not sent me an SMS to that effect; none of them has sent me a text yet. But I will call the wife now, you can call me back in 10 minutes,” Yeni told our correspondent on a WhatsApp call.
In the company of his attorney and a family spokesperson, the afrobeat singer later handed himself in at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, and was then moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, where he was ultimately locked up.
