The Senate on Wednesday revealed that the North West Development Commission Bill has been sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assent.
Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who made this disclosure expressed confidence that Tinubu would address the challenges in the North-West geopolitical zone.
The bill which was sponsored by Barau, stated that all was set for the transmission of the bill to the President for assent, as both chambers of the National Assembly had passed the bill.
Barau in a statement by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, said that the passage of the bill by the parliament aligned with President Tinubu’s commitment to transform the country and return it to the path of progress and prosperity.
He said, “The establishment of the North-West Development Commission is aimed at addressing the challenges facing the seven states in the geopolitical zone (Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara) and the country as a whole.
"The commission will work towards the restoration of infrastructure destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents and bandits in the region.”
He emphasised the importance of the commission in addressing challenges in the region and the entire country.
