The Senator representing the Lagos East local government constituency, Adetokunbo Abiru has disclosed that the Senate house has rescheduled the meeting with the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso to Friday.
The earlier scheduled date was Tuesday, February 6, 2024 and it was rescheduled because the CBN governor didn’t show up two hours after the set time for appointment as stated by the Senator.
"After waiting for close to two hours for the CBN Governor on the planned interface, we have resolved to postpone it to Friday this week by 9:00 a.m. prompt," Abiru stated.
He added, "Communication to this effect would be forwarded to the CBN Governor today (Tuesday) and possibly other government officials managing the economy."
The Senator who also chaired the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, confirmed an impending gathering between lawmakers and top military officials scheduled.
The meeting with the service chiefs will reportedly be conducted privately. The Senate had passed a resolution summoning the service chiefs to appear before it on Wednesday to discuss pressing security issues.
Senator Abiru noted that the forthcoming meeting with the service chiefs, anticipated to span two days: Wednesday and Thursday.
"We also discussed the worsening economic crisis in the country and dangerous signals from states where Nigerians are already staging protests," the senator revealed.
During plenary, the Senate also deliberated on a motion put forth by Senator Ahmad Lawan regarding the passing of former Yobe State Governor, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim.
The Red Chamber observed a minute of silence in honor of the deceased and constituted a nine-member delegation, led by former Kebbi governor and Senator representing Kebbi Central, Adamu Aliero, for a condolence visit to the governor of Yobe State and the family of the deceased.
