POSTED ON July 13, 2023 •   Politics      BY Samuel O . Adeniyi •   VIEWS 378

The Senate has confirmed the nomination of four new service chiefs appointed by President Bola Tinubu.

This is coming after the Senate met with the nominated service chiefs in a closed-door screening session on Thursday.

Tinubu on June 19, 2023, in a major shakeup of the country's security architecture nominated the service chiefs.

The shakeup came following persistent calls by civil society organizations for the government to rejig the security architecture and appoint fresh hands to handle the nation's security apparatus.

The Senate's confirmation of the new service chiefs is seen as a major step by the government to address the security challenges facing the country.

The new service chiefs confirmed by the Senate are:

  • Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa (Chief of Defence Staff)
  • Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja (Chief of Army Staff)
  • Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla (Chief of Naval Staff)
  • AVM Hassan Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff)
