The Nigerian Senate has officially passed a bill to raise the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000, thereby making it a law.
The approval was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio after the bill underwent its third reading during a plenary session in Abuja on Tuesday.
This bill, which was put forward by President Bola Tinubu after discussions with organized labour leaders last week, also included a reduction in the review period for the minimum wage from five years to three years.
During the Tuesday session, Akpabio presented the bill and called for its approval, stating that the third reading had been completed and passed.
Further details will be provided later.
