The Saudi Arabia's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nation, UN, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, stressed the crucial importance of a secure and dependable cyberspace that promotes economic growth and prosperity.
During a UN Security Council debate on evolving cyberspace threats, Alwasil highlighted the need for global prioritization of cybersecurity efforts, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
He emphasized that strong cybersecurity is vital for protecting the essential interests and national security of nations.
Alwasil called for enhanced international cooperation in cybersecurity and urged joint efforts to reduce cyber risks. He also emphasized the necessity for the international community to take a serious and practical approach in unifying global efforts against cyberspace threats through relevant UN committees and specialized bodies.
Furthermore, he pointed out the significant and rapid progress made in Saudi Arabia's cybersecurity sector, which aligns with the objectives outlined in Vision 2030. The Kingdom is working towards developing a "Saudi model" in cybersecurity based on centralized governance and decentralized operability.
Alwasil provided details on Saudi Arabia's achievements in cybersecurity, including its global ranking of second place and first in the Arab world, the Middle East, and Asia according to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Global Cybersecurity Index. The Kingdom also secured the second place globally in the 2022 and 2023 World Competitiveness Yearbook's cybersecurity indicator, published by the Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland. This year, Saudi Arabia further solidified its global leadership in cybersecurity by claiming the top spot in the World Competitiveness Yearbook.
He also mentioned the establishment of the Global Cybersecurity Forum (GCF) in Riyadh, an organization dedicated to enhancing cybersecurity on an international scale.
