The recently reinstated Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has disclosed the reason behind President Bola Tinubu's decision not to obstruct his reinstatement by the Kano State government.
In an interview with journalist, Sanusi explained that the President chose not to use federal power to oppose his reinstatement, opting instead to uphold law and order in Kano State.
Sanusi was reinstated as the Emir of Kano on Friday by Governor Abba Yusuf after the enactment of the new Kano Emirate Council Law 2024, which replaced the Emirate Council Law established by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Reflecting on the events leading to his reinstatement, Sanusi stated that President Tinubu recognized the Kano situation as a local matter and resisted all pressures to interfere or use federal authority.
He expressed his gratitude to Alhaji Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, acknowledging that without Tinubu's principled stance of non-interference in the state's internal affairs, his reinstatement would not have been possible.
Sanusi also commended the President for respecting the constitution and the separation of powers, emphasizing that the President's refusal to involve the federal government demonstrated his commitment to allowing the state government to act in accordance with its responsibilities.
Sanusi viewed his reinstatement as a continuation of his service and an opportunity given by God to improve upon his previous tenure. Despite some admiration and support from the President, Sanusi's return to the throne did not raise significant security concerns, as indicated by security reports.
