No fewer than six persons have been reportedly killed with more than 100 others abducted as suspected gunmen attacked a community in Sokoto State yesterday.
Eyewitness reports indicated that gunmen numbering about seven, armed with sophisticated firearms attacked the residents of Tudun Doki in the Gwadabawa Local Government Area of the state about 1.30 am on Sunday.
The gunmen were said to have shot at anybody on sight and took many community members as their captives.
Sokoto State Police Command spokesman Ahmed Rufai confirmed the killing of over six persons and abduction of scores of residents at Tudun Doki area of the state.
He said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) attached to Gwadabawa led a team of policemen to the community to assess the situation and restore normalcy.
Rufai said, “Six dead bodies were recovered by a search team and effort is still ongoing to recover other missing persons."
Gwadabawa, one of the local governments in the Eastern Senatorial District of Sokoto State, had been peaceful until the Sunday morning attack.
