The Transatlantic Military Alliance has indicated that NATO's "most urgent task" is to make sure that Ukraine defeats Russia.
On February 24, 2022, Russia attacked Ukraine. Since then, despite not possessing any of the capitals, Russia has asserted annexation of four Ukrainian areas.
In remarks made on May 15 at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit, Secretary General of the military alliance Jens Stoltenberg remarked;
"The most critical goal right now is to make sure that Ukraine wins the conflict — not (Russian) President Putin.
"Fundamentally, NATO's role is to support Ukraine, as it has done with the help of its partners for more than a year, but it also entails preventing the war from spreading outside of Ukraine," according to the source.
The head of the US-led coalition said that Ukraine has to be well-armed to ward against Russian aggression both now and in the future.
"We don't know how this war will end, but what we do know is that when it ends, it is extremely important that we are able to prevent history from repeating itself," he continued.
When the battle is done, the NATO supremo predicted that Ukraine will formally join the organization.
When it comes to membership, Stoltenberg predicted that NATO partners will announce that Ukraine would join the organization.
"Allies also concur that Ukraine has the right to determine its own course of action. Moscow should not be the one to determine what Ukraine can do."
