Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has unveiled his 25-man Benin Republic squad to face Nigeria in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The match is scheduled for June 10th at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan.
The squad comprises 19 professional players plying their trade in various European clubs and six players from the Benin local league.
Rohr, who took over the Benin job in February 2023, has faced challenges with the team, recording only one win, four draws, and five losses in his 10 games in charge.
Nigeria, currently third in Group C with two points after drawing their first two matches, will first face South Africa on June 7th in Uyo before travelling to Abidjan to meet Rohr's Benin.
Rohr acknowledged the quality of the Super Eagles squad, stating, "They are only two points behind the group leaders (Rwanda), and that is an advantage they can overturn in the next round. We cannot rule out a team with the quality of the Nigerian team. Every team in the group knows it."
During his five-year tenure with the Super Eagles, Rohr oversaw 64 matches, securing 35 wins, 13 losses, and 16 draws. His notable achievements include guiding the team to a third-place finish in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Squirrels are expected to arrive in Abidjan on Monday and will train on the same pitch where they will face the Super Eagles.
