A member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Enemi George has firmly stated his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). George, who appeared as a guest on Channels Television's Politics Today on Wednesday, emphasized that he and the 27 others who moved to the APC are resolute in supporting President Bola Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda.'
"We have crossed that Rubicon. We have moved to the APC. We voted for the President, if we find Mr. President worthy of our votes, then I think we should find him worthy of our support," George declared during the interview. He highlighted the group's dedication to working with President Tinubu to fulfill the expectations of Nigerians, emphasizing that there is no turning back for them.
The political landscape in Rivers State has been marred by conflicts between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. This discord led to 27 lawmakers defecting from the PDP to the ruling APC, triggering a series of events, including an impeachment notice served to the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and the resignation of pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara's cabinet.
Recent developments suggest a resolution in the political impasse following a meeting between the warring parties and President Tinubu on Monday. George disclosed that over 150 individuals from both parties, including members of the National Assembly and state elders, attended the peace meeting. He explained that the President facilitated deliberations on various issues, allowing both parties to agree or dispute each point. The parties ultimately signed an agreement, with the governor expressing commitment to its terms.
"For every item that was considered, the President gave both parties the option of controverting or agreeing. So, each item was deliberated and was agreed on," George narrated. He concluded that the signed document marked a significant step forward in resolving the political tensions in Rivers State.
