Richard Keys' criticism of Erik ten Hag
The Red Devils' dismal start to the new season continued last night with a loss to Galatasaray at Old Trafford. The result dropped them to last place in Group A of the Champions League. United have lost six of their first 10 games across all competitions, despite making significant summer player additions. Keys wrote on Twitter:"It’s clear ETH has lost his players with his tin-pot tough guy act and by always blaming them. That’s repairable. Casemiro Eriksen Varane and Amrabat not being able to run isn’t and the keeper is a liability. Fernandes won’t run – that’s a big problem. He’s not a captain."https://twitter.com/richardajkeys/status/1709464386849456187?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1709464386849456187%7Ctwgr%5Edd8a7f854d4248f57749bdc746c71fb4af29b8d9%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpublish.twitter.com%2F%3Fquery%3Dhttps3A2F2Ftwitter.com2Frichardajkeys2Fstatus2F1709464386849456187widget%3DTweet
Who then are the Six Man United stars who are bigger problems than their manager?
Keys also named six Man United stars who he believes are bigger problems than their manager. These players include Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Raphael Varane, Sofyan Amrabat, Bruno Fernandes, and Andre Onana, the goalkeeper. Keys thinks the team's inability to run, bad performances, and lack of leadership are more problematic than Ten Hag's management approach.Richard Keys' comments
The comments made by Keys have caused a heated discussion amongst Man Utd supporters. Some fans agree with Keys and consider the six players he mentioned a bigger issue than Hag's ten. There are others who disagree with Keys and hold ten Hag responsible for the club's current plight. The performances of Onana are becoming increasingly worrisome, while it is too early to evaluate deadline day purchase Amrabat, especially given that his early United games have been at left-back. Ten Hag has no plans to bench his £50 million goalie in advance of Saturday's game against Brentford despite the player's shaky start.According to Metro, ETH said:
‘We are happy with our goalkeeping group. Andre was in one semi-final, last season in a final of Champions League.
‘(He) Can be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. We have seen already his great capabilities + also his personality. He will bounce back.’
Whether or if ten Hag can improve things at Manchester United is still up in the air. He has a significant amount of work ahead of him, and in order to be successful, he will need to coax the greatest performance out of his players.
