A group of lawmakers in the House of Representatives is seeking a change to the 1999 Constitution to make way for rotation of Presidency among the various geo-political zones in the country.
The lawmakers also sought constitutional amendment to accommodate a “A single tenure" of six years for the President and Governors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the lawmaker, on Monday, the member representing Ideato South/Ideato North Federal Constituency, Imo State, Ikenga Ugochinyere, said, reduction in government tenure would boost national stability and reduce spending and wastage.
“The reduction in government spending and wastage, efficiency in governance, and national stability by providing a single term of six years for the President and Governors will go a long way in ensuring cost-cutting measures,” Ugochinyere stated.
