Nigerian sensation Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema has finally addressed the rumors that have called him a devil worshiper.
This follows his frequent usage of bat imagery and other dark images over the last few years.
In a gripping new episode of the 'Kids Take Over' podcast, the 'Calm Down' hitmaker opened up about the most ridiculous rumors that have surfaced about him, claiming that the accusation of being "a devil worshiper" is the wildest.
His words; “They say worship the devil [laughs]. It’s crazy. I didn’t respond to it because it is not important. It’s a waste of time.”
Rema, in new video, passionately clarified that the symbols he incorporates into his art are deeply rooted in Edo culture, not in any sinister beliefs.
He emphasized that his creative expression reflects his heritage and artistic vision rather than any allegiance to the occult.
The music star shared insights into his collaboration with Canadian superstar Drake back in 2020 for the leaked track “Mention Me.
The award winning singer gained initial recognition with his 2019 song "Dumebi". That same year, he signed with D'Prince's record label, Jonzing World. He achieved international recognition with his 2022 single "Calm Down", which spawned a remix with American singer Selena Gomez that peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also led Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart for a record-setting 58 weeks.
"Calm Down" emerged from Rema's debut studio album, Rave & Roses (2022), which peaked at number 81 on the Billboard 200. His fourth commercial EP, Ravage, was released in 2023. His second album, Heis (2024), was supported by the single "Benin Boys" (with Shallipopi).
