The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Old Pen Cinema Parish, has renovated nine computer laboratories and donated five new desktop computers to Vetland Junior Grammar School Agege, Lagos, to support technology education in public schools.

The parish also provided N500 packs of rice to residents of the area during a ‘Jesus Boys Crusade’ held under the Agege bridge, shortly after unveiling the projects at the Vetland School.

The programme according to the church was part of the RCCG social responsibility initiatives. The two events coincided with the 70th birthday celebration of the founding pastor of the parish, Brown Oyitso.

Oyitso, currently the RCCG pastor in charge of Region 19, stated that the purpose of the two-part programmes was to ensure the community experience the influence of the gospel in the place where it began many years ago.

He said, “I feel so honoured and blessed. The ministry God commissioned into our hands started in this environment. To come and give back to this neighbourhood after so many years has brought me so much fulfillment in life.

“This means that our labour has not been in vain. We came to see that this neighbourhood has become modernised. It means that the gospel had an impact on the neighborhood. This is a routine Christian social responsibility programme.

“We only used the 70th birthday anniversary as a vehicle for us to come here. It’s a routine programme. We sink boreholes in communities, we engage in medical outreaches, and we donate medical equipment to hospitals around this area.”

The Tutor-General of the State Education District 1, Bashir Adebowale, praised the RCCG for selecting the school for the donation.

He explained that the government’s vision was to transform public schools into a model for others in the country.

He said, “I congratulate our dad for the 70th celebration. I want to thank all members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God for choosing this school for the project to celebrate him.

“The Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, takes education seriously. He earmarks, on a yearly basis, a whopping amount of the state budget, very close to the UNESCO recommendation, to education to the envy of other ministries.”

On her part, the school’s principal, Latunde Dada, said, “What they have done today is a continuation of what the state government is doing to education in Lagos State. The RCCG refurbished the school’s computer laboratory. They also donated five other desktop computers to the laboratory."
