It has been requested that the federal government make the execution of the third quarter of the 2022 budget public.
This demand was made in a statement on Friday by the well-known transparency and accountability group BudgIT.
Nancy Odimegwu, a BudgIT communication associate, claims that the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, on behalf of the budget office of the federation, should release the Q3 2022 budget execution report 30 working days after the conclusion of the quarter.
As stated in Section 30 (1) of the Fiscal Obligation Act of 2007, "It is the Minister of Finance's responsibility, through the Budget Office of the Federation, to monitor and evaluate the annual budget implementation diligently."
Speaking about the effects of the delay, Iniobong Usen, Head of Research and Policy Advisory at BudgIT, said: "Delayed distribution of the Budget Implementation Report affects accountability and puts residents in the dark regarding the use of public resources. The circumstance makes it more difficult to act quickly when budget implementation is not progressing as expected."
