ABUJA, Nigeria - Protests have begun in the Federal Capital Territory to voice concerns over increasing hardship and insecurity in the nation.
Security forces had previously stationed heavily armed personnel at key locations throughout the city, particularly at likely protest hotspots.
The presence of law enforcement was especially prominent at major intersections and the National Assembly, as well as other spots where protesters might gather.
Nonetheless, the demonstrations, which align with Nigeria’s Democracy Day, started in the Apo area of Abuja, where participants were observed singing solidarity songs and holding placards to convey their issues.
