President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has released a nomination list for the appointment of key officials in the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
President Tinubu wrote to the Senate seeking approval for the appointment of Mr. Olayemi Cardoso as the Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The letter was read during plenary by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, also included nominations for other key positions.
In addition to Cardoso's nomination, Tinubu nominated Dr. Kelechi Ohiri for appointment as the Director-General of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). He also nominated Honourable Yomi Fasua to replace Hon. Kunle Sobukola as a Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) representing Ogun State.
Sobukola, who was earlier confirmed by the Senate for the MPC position, is set to return to assume his seat at the Ogun State House of Assembly following a court order declaring him the winner of the 18th March 2023 State Assembly election in Ikenne state constituency.
The President's letter to the Senate outlined the appointments for the MPC of the CBN, including the nomination of Cardoso as chairman and the appointment of 11 other members. The letter also sought confirmation for Dr. Ohiri as the Director-General of NHIA.
The Senate referred the requests for confirmation to the appropriate committees for further legislative action and is expected to report back within one week.
All these nominations for the key positions in the MPC awaits the approval and signage of the Senate. Tinubu's letter to the Senate holds the hope for the economic future of the country.
