Popular Nigerian singer and rapper, Portable has called out his colleagues for claiming ownership of Amapiano and neglecting Afrobeat.
In a video posted on his Instagram page, the singer encouraged them to cherish their music genre and leave Amapiano to the South Africans.
Portable began by addressing his colleagues, who wanted to use music created with Amapiano beats to win international honors.
In a part of the video he was heard saying; “Go back to Afrobeat, Amapiano belongs to South Africans and they’ve collected a Grammy Award, stop copying their beats and promote Afrobeat instead, when you don’t promote Afrobeat you can not receive a Grammy Award.”
It may seem as though the controversial singer is seemingly making sarcastic remarks about his colleagues, including Asake, Davido, and other Nigerian artistes who did not win at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.
The artistes lost the Best African Music Performance category to South Africa’s Tyla with her song “Water”.
Although Portable did not mention names, he indirectly threw a jab at Asake who is well recognized for singing the Amapiano beat in Nigeria and even got a nomination for the hit track.
Recall that about two weeks earlier, Portable had made a video where he was mocking Asake, saying, “lonely at the top.”
Portable became famous after contributing to the song "ZaZoo Zehh" featuring Nigerian rapper Olamide and Nigerian dancer Poco Lee.
During his early stage of fame, he became well known for calling out his business partners on social media for scamming him on business deals such as artist management and also on his Instagram handle where he mostly does all his controversial activities
