KASTINA, Nigeria - The Katsina State Police Command reported the arrest of a 25-year-old housewife on Sunday in connection with the death of her co-wife.
The incident took place behind Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area of Daura town, Daura Local Government Area, when a domestic dispute between the two women escalated into a deadly confrontation.
According to a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, on May 24, 2025, at approximately 11 pm, a report was received at the Sabon Gari Division from Nasir Yusuf, the husband, indicating that upon returning from the market, he found his first wife, Zainab Lawal, 30, lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer and a team of operatives quickly went to the scene and transported the victim to the Federal Medical Centre in Daura for treatment, where she was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
During the investigation, her co-wife, Rabi’a Labaran, 23, also from the same address, was arrested in relation to the crime.
She confessed to the offense, explaining that a misunderstanding with the deceased resulted in a physical altercation that led to the tragic event.
The investigation is ongoing. Commissioner of Police CP Bello Shehu urged the public to avoid domestic violence and seek legal avenues for dispute resolution, emphasizing that taking the law into one's own hands only causes further harm and undermines the rule of law.
