Two students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, simply identified as Oladapo Yusuf, 28, of Osun State and Aisha Abubakar, 22, of Lagos Street, Minna, have been found dead in the sitting room of the male student at the Federal Medical Centre Quarters.
The lifeless bodies of the students were discovered in the room lying on the floor with a plate of unfinished food by their side.
The bodies of the two students of the institution were discovered after neighbours did not see them around.
Compound Sources who do not want their identities mentioned said, the deceased might be victims of food poisoning, calling for autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of their death.
Their remains were taken for burial by 4pm in accordance with Islamic rites.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, said, when security operatives visited the apartment, leftover food and some tablets were found at the scene.
Abiodun said, “We receive information that two lifeless bodies of a man identified as Mr Bam and an HND 1 female student of Federal Poly, Bida, were found dead in their lodge at ‘D’ Aliyu House, Kobbo, Bida.
“The DPO of B Division, Bida, led police operatives to the scene. The door to the room was forcefully opened and it was discovered that the bodies were lying dead on the floor in the sitting room.
“A left-over food and some tablets were discovered at the scene and were taken for medical analysis. There was no sign of struggle or any mark of violence observed on the bodies. The corpses were removed to the FMC Bida for autopsy. The incident is under investigation,” Abiodun said.
