LAGOS, Nigeria - The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody a 16-year-old boy found with a gun in Ebute-Ero, a neighborhood in Lagos.
The spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday.
He mentioned that alert residents notified the police upon seeing the teenager, named Solomon Ibiwoye, carrying a firearm. Following this, police officers searched his residence and discovered a locally made gun along with an unspent cartridge.
“Kudos to the observant residents of Lagos who spotted 16-year-old Solomon Ibiwoye with a gun and discreetly informed the Ebute-Ero Police Division,” said Hundeyin.
“The police conducted a search of his home and found a locally crafted firearm and an unspent cartridge. An investigation is ongoing. That’s one less firearm on the streets.”
The spokesperson also encouraged Lagosians to remain vigilant and report criminal activities to the appropriate authorities. “If you see something, say something,” he emphasized.
