The Gombe State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal has fixed July 9 for the continuation of the hearing of petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the process of the local government election conducted on April 27, 2024.
Recall that the PDP wrote a petition against the victory of Gombe Local Government Chairman, Barrister Sani Haruna, his deputy Muhammad Adamu, the All Progressives Congress and the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission.
Also, the candidate of the PDP in Billiri LG filed an action against the declared winner, Mrs Egla Idris.
Among the reliefs sought by the PDP in a case file include the declaration that the election supposedly and or purportedly conducted by GSIEC on the April 27, 2024 was voided by corrupt practices, irregularities and offences under the applicable law.
According to the case file, “An order of the Tribunal nullifying the purported declaration of the 1 & 2 Respondents as chairman and deputy chairman of the Gombe Local Government Council.’
“An order of the Tribunal restraining the 1 & 2 Respondents from holding themselves as chairperson and deputy chairman of Gombe local Government and the 4th respondent from recognising them as such.
“A declaration that the election supposedly and, or purportedly conducted by GSIEC on the 27th April 2024, was voided by corrupt practices, irregularities, and offences under the applicable law.”
