In response to rumors that 4,000 Nigerians are stuck in war-torn Sudan, Peter Obi of the Labour Party has spoken out.
The federal government has been requested to evacuate Nigerian students in the nation due to the increase of conflict in Khartoum, the capital, and other regions of the nation.
The development had sparked emotions, with many criticizing the government's handling of the situation.
The presidency claimed that the circumstance had kept the Nigerian administration up at night.
However, Peter Obi said it is unfortunate that the federal government has not evacuated Nigerians from the area in a message posted on his official Twitter account on Sunday.
He urged the federal government to speed up all efforts to evacuate and save Nigerians who were trapped in Sudan.
"The news that there are still Nigerians stuck in Sudan saddens and worries me. We urgently implore the Federal Government of Nigeria to hasten all efforts to rescue approximately 4000 Nigerians, the majority of whom are students, even though we are aware of the severe difficulties in Sudan.
"Since protecting Nigerians both at home and abroad is the FGN's legal obligation, he wrote in his article, "we must address such issues with more deserving proactiveness and commitment as the life of every Nigerian is sacred and important."
