Peter Obi Responds To Fg's Charge Of Treason Against Him: "Your Claim Is Malicious."

The Federal Government has accused Peter Obi of treason, and the Labour Party's presidential candidate has replied.

The Federal Government (FG) had previously charged Obi with inciting Nigerians to violence over the results of the presidential elections through the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in Washington DC, the minister engaged in discussions about the recently concluded 2023 elections with international media outlets and think tanks. He claimed that Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba Ahmed Yusuf, have been encouraging insurrection ever since they lost the presidential election on February 25.

"Obi and his Vice, Datti Ahmed, cannot be threatening Nigerians that the country's democracy will come to an end on May 29 if Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is ushered in as president, said Lai.

It is treachery. You can't encourage rebellion, and that's exactly what they're doing.

"Obi is not a democrat as he claimed to be; his statement is that of a desperate person."

The former governor of Anambra State responded to the claim by calling the minister's assertion fictitious and malicious in a sequence of tweets.

Obi claimed he has never advocated for the overthrow of the Nigerian government or taught against it.

"Over the past few days, I've seen a number of smear campaigns against me, the most recent of which involved accusations ascribed to information minister Lai Mohammed from Washington, DC.

It is very unfortunate that such high positions are trying so hard to portray me in a way that is completely at odds with who I am and what my core beliefs are. The claim that I incited an uprising by Minister Lai is completely false and spiteful.

"I have never advocated for or debated undermining the Nigerian government; I have never funded or preached against any such action. The people who are starting these actions are increasingly accusing me of falsehoods by using their official roles and agents.

"I have a history of supporting peace and issue-based campaigns; I have never run for office on the basis of race or faith. Due process is important to me, so I'm currently pursuing justice."

Therefore, he urged those who were criticizing him to cease painting the nation in a negative light.
