Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the just completed general elections, has responded to the topless demonstration of women in Nasarawa State against the election results.
Women in Nasarawa State's Akwanga Local Government Area yesterday half-naked themselves in protest of the state's governorship election results.
The women protested that their votes must be counted and that their mandate had been stolen.
When voters are denied their options, Obi claimed in a response on Twitter on Friday night, the purpose of elections is defeated.
He remarked, "I just saw a sad, devastating video where Nasarawa women staged a topless protest to express their discontent with the election results."
According to the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, it is a serious injustice when people are denied the chance to participate in a transparent, free, and fair election.
He bemoaned the degradation of women, whose rights ought to be upheld.
The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) announced that Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had won the Nasarawa State governorship election held on March 18.
David Ombugadu, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was the APC candidate's closest rival and received 283, 016 votes while the APC candidate received 347, 209 votes overall, according to Prof. Ishaya Tanko, the state's collation and returning officer.
