The National Leader of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, has dissociated himself from the Directorate for Obidient Affairs created by the suspended National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure.
Recall, Abure was suspended last week from the party.
Abure, created an application for the registration of members of Obidient Movement, members of the Labour Party, and established a directorate to oversee the registration.
However, Marcel Ngogbehei, was appointed to head the new directorate.
But Obi in a statement on his verified X platform, said “Obidient Movement” does not belong to any political party.
He wrote: “I like to categorically state that the Obidient Movement is not directorate of any particular political party. Any individual or individuals claiming to be leaders of this non-existent directorate are simply not members of the broader Obidient Movement.”
About 261 Obidient support groups, had the directorate and accused Abure of a plot to usurp its grassroots-driven force.
The statement which was signed by Mubarak Bawa, The Obidient Conveners Collective; Daniel Elomba, Co-convener
Peter Obi Support Network (POSN), and Ekene Nwakuche, Co-convener, Like Minds for Peter Obi (LMPO), among others, viewed the creation of the directorate and the appointment of individuals without consulting Peter Obi or the core movement, as an insult.
They rejected the appointment of Ngogbehei to head the Obidient Directorate and said it was a ploy orchestrated by forces with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“This ludicrous scheme, no doubt concocted within the corridors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), whose president and cronies are desperate to undermine Peter Obi’s popularity and the unstoppable force of the Obidient Movement, is doomed to fail.
“Ngogbehei’s attempts to portray himself as ‘the Obidient leader’ are laughable. The Obidient Movement recognises no leader other than Peter Obi. We categorically reject the creation of an Obidient Directorate within the Labour Party.
