The petitions contesting the results of the 2023 presidential election are once again being heard by the Presidential Election Petition Court.
The Allied People's Movement, the Peoples Democratic Party, and the Labour Party all have presidential candidates who have signed petitions.
President Bola Tinubu opened the hearing by referencing the Supreme Court's ruling on Friday, May 26, which dismissed PDP's appeal about the double nomination. He did so through his attorney, Wole Olanipekun.
Olanipekun wants to know if the Supreme Court's ruling will affect the case of the APM, which is contesting the All Progressives Congress's victory on the basis that Kashim Shettima was substituted for Kabir Masari.
S.A.T. Abubakar, the attorney for APM, responded that the party had not yet received a copy of the ruling from the Supreme Court.
According to Abubakar, the APM would respond appropriately as soon as it receives a copy of the verdict and is aware of the implications of the Supreme Court's ruling.
The attorney for the APM also requested that the hearing on the petition be postponed until Friday, 2nd June, so that he may ask the Supreme Court for a Certified True Copy of the ruling regarding Shettima's double nomination.
His motion was granted, and the hearing for APM was postponed until June 2nd.
The PDP and LP petitions will both still be heard by the Court in the interim.
