PDP to produce more Govs, unseat Tinubu in 2027-NWC

YENAGOA, Nigeria – The national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday announced its intention to unseat the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to secure more state governorships in the upcoming 2027 general election.

This declaration was made by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) during a visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, at his residence in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the NWC, National Treasurer Ahmed Yayare highlighted the widespread disenchantment in the country due to ongoing economic difficulties, asserting that the PDP is poised to gain more governorships in 2027.

He emphasised that the PDP is the only credible opposition capable of taking political power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, warning that failure to do so could jeopardize democracy in Nigeria.

“Nothing prevents the PDP from producing both the president and vice president in 2027. The cries of hunger and poverty are overwhelming,” he stated.

“The 36 states of Nigeria are longing for the PDP's return. The APC cannot campaign openly for fear of being met with hostility. Nigeria's future is in your hands. We require your support to rescue Nigeria,” he added.

Yayare mentioned that the NWC was also in Sampou to express condolences to Senator Diri over the passing of the retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Moses Jituboh, and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei.

PDP National Secretary Sunday Ude-Okoye reiterated that the NWC is committed to revitalizing the party and proving to Nigerians that they have a viable alternative capable of providing quality leadership.

Governor Diri in his response emphasised the importance of unity among the party and its governors as the sole effective opposition.

“As governors, we must collaborate closely. We should act rightly without concern for personal interests. We can reach consensus as a means of resolving disputes. It is not always appropriate to resort to legal action when we are dissatisfied. We cannot allow political interests to lead us astray. If the PDP falters under our stewardship, future generations will hold us accountable.”
