The Peoples Democratic Party in Adamawa State has won all 21 chairmanship seats in the Local Government elections conducted on Saturday.
The Chairman, Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Umar, made the announcement of the results in Yola, on Sunday.
The election followed the judgment of the Supreme Court, which affirmed local government autonomy, asking the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee to withhold funds meant for LGAs without democratically elected officials.
Adamawa LG election, Umar said for councillorship positions, the PDP also won 225 seats while the New Nigeria People’s Party won one seat in Demsa ward in Demsa Local Government Area of the state.
“For the Chairmanship election, PDP won all the 21 seats as declared at the Local Government level. And for the councillorship, PDP won 225 seats while the NNPP won one seat in Demsa ward,” he said.
He further said that the commission would issue their certificates of return on Monday.
Twelve political parties reportedly participated in the just-concluded elections in the state.
