A total number of 204 cadets of the Nigeria Correctional Service who were participants of the 27th ASC Basic Course graduated from the Nigeria Correctional Service Training College in Lagos.
The basic training is designed to prepare correctional officers for General Correctional Techniques, Administration, and Personnel Management.

The Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service CG Haliru Nababa FiICMC MFR mni was represented at the passing out parade by the Zonal Coordinator Zone A Command ACG Abolade Victor Benson, as the Review officer of the occasion.
In his keynote address, the Guest of Honour congratulated the graduands for successfully completing the training.
He stated that the cadets are critical to the service operations. He congratulated the participants for attending the course and encouraged them to remain resolute in carrying out their various lawful duties.
However, he emphasised that our duties as a service are stated in the 2019 Correctional Services Act with a focus on security, reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of reformed offenders back into society. He said:
"We need to remind ourselves of our roles and joint efforts with other sister agencies to maintain internal security operations across the country and that the Nigerian Correctional Services is a part of the administration of the Criminal Justice system in Nigeria."

He stated that capacity building and welfare of correctional services personnel remains one of the major agendas of the services, as training and retraining of personnel in partnership with relevant agencies like the Nigerian Army Special Forces Training Centre Kontagora, Armed Forces Command and staff college Jaji Kaduna, Institute for policy and strategic studies Kuru Jos, National institute for security studies Bwari Abuja and National Defence College Abuja.
Others are UNODC and PRAWA.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Interior Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for their support in driving the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019 despite the prevailing challenges facing the Country.
The Controller General also commended the efforts of The Commandant, Directing staff, Parade Drill and PE Instructors, and Staff Training and Development units, which are highly appreciated.
The ceremony ended with the award of prizes amidst a colourful fanfare.
