KEBBI, Nigeria- No less than 200 undocumented immigrants discovered residing in a three-bedroom apartment have been apprehended by the Nigerian Police in Kebbi State.
A breakdown of the statistics of the foreigners indicated that the suspects, who entered the country through land borders, originated from various Francophone nations in West Africa.
The group consists of 110 citizens from Ivory Coast, 35 nationals from Burkina Faso, 11 citizens of Benin Republic, five individuals from Niger Republic, and four nationals from Mali.
It was reported that they were arrested by law enforcement after none were able to present valid residency documents proving their lawful entry into Nigeria.
Additionally, the suspects were reported to have participated in the Qnet Ponzi scheme prior to their detention by the Kebbi Command of the police.
Following preliminary investigations, the suspects were transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service in Kebbi State for further investigation and necessary action.
The police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, who verified the arrests on Tuesday while presenting the suspects, assured that the Command will enhance patrol efforts to decrease the crime rate in the state.
According to him, the arrests occurred on January 31, 2025, following an intelligence tip-off that directed detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to the Kuwait area of Birnin Kebbi.
