Following the failure of businesses to meet up with their tax obligations to the government, the Osun State Internal Revenue Service (OIRS) has said it will begin to clamp down on business premises.
In a statement issued on Saturday, OIRS Information Officer, Oluwaseun Ayeni, said the agency chairman, Mr Adesola Adewumi, gave the warning during an awareness campaign held in Osogbo, the state capital.
While warning that by Monday, the state government would seal off the defaulting business premises, Adewumi said all tax-defaulting businesses in the state should pay up their dues before the clampdown begins.
The OIRS chairman, who was represented by the Director of Legal and Enforcement of the agency, Mr Deji Atoyebi, said the statewide enforcement was due by May.
He said, “The Board of OIRS has concluded plans to begin tax enforcement against defaulters if they continue to fail in fulfilling their tax obligations to the state government.
“We therefore advise all tax defaulting businesses in the state to avoid any inconveniences that may arise during the closure.
“The businesses have been served with harmonised demand notices to do the needful before the state embarks on enforcement/closure to bring the defaulters to book."
