OSUN, Nigeria - The Osun State Government has expressed concern about a purported attempt by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) to divert local government funds intended for the state into private accounts associated with individuals, without proper authorization.
In a statement from the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dosu Babatunde, the administration condemned the proposal as unconstitutional and a clear breach of Nigeria's public finance laws and regulations.
The commissioner indicated that the state government had discovered an alleged collusion between the two federal entities designed to undermine the ongoing legal dispute at the Supreme Court concerning the management of local government finances in Osun.
"We firmly believe that this action is illegal and a significant violation of due process and the Nigerian Constitution," he stated.
