The Osun State Government has announced the immediate enforcement of a new retirement age and service length for teachers in the state's civil service.
This move, outlined in a circular issued by Head of Service Ayanleye Aina, also aims to restore stability within Osun schools.
The circular emphasizes that teachers interested in the extended retirement age must meet specific guidelines. Additionally, the state government has directed the Ministry of Finance and SUBEB to halt salary payments for teachers currently benefiting from extended retirement without fulfilling the set conditions.
The circular reads, "I refer to previous Circulars Ref. Nos. SMD.61/VOL.III/36 dated May 31st, 2022 and SMD.61/Vol.IV/52 dated October 20th, 2023, and reiterated that the conditions outlined in those documents remain in effect. Therefore, all teachers receiving benefits under the new retirement age and service length who haven't met the requirements will no longer enjoy such benefits until they comply with the existing circulars."
The circular further clarifies, "To be eligible for the new retirement age and service length, teachers must strictly adhere to the outlined guidelines. A copy of these guidelines is attached for your reference."
The circular concludes by requesting "relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of government to ensure widespread distribution of this circular and strict compliance."
