OSUN, Nigeria - Amidst ongoing boundary disputes between the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities, which have led to loss of lives and property, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke for his failure to ensure the security of the state.
The opposition party also condemned the governor for not conducting an on-site inspection of the affected communities five days after the violent confrontations.
In a statement, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, expressed concern that while victims were still grappling with their losses, the governor had not considered visiting the locations, labeling such behavior as extreme insensitivity.
The statement included: “While residents of the impacted communities struggle for survival in demeaning conditions, becoming ‘refugees’ in neighboring towns and villages, it is puzzling that Governor Ademola Adeleke has not found it necessary to visit the distressed areas to offer reassurance and support to the victims of this avoidable conflict.”
“It raises doubts whether a governor who is unaware of the damage inflicted on the people in the affected areas will possess the ability to arrange for aid for the displaced victims or those mourning their deceased relatives.
“The poor management of the ongoing community clashes reflects the superficial commitment the governor shows towards the welfare and security of the populace.”
In the meantime, the Osun State Police Command reported that it had arrested three suspects for purportedly violating the dusk-to-dawn curfew enforced on certain conflict-embroiled communities by the governor.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state command, Adeola Adeoye, stated that the Command, in conjunction with other security agencies, would strive diligently to avert any further bloodshed and disruption of law and order by strictly enforcing the 24-hour curfew imposed by the governor.
