OSUN STATE, Nigeria —The Osun State government has called on the Nigerian Railway Corporation to extend its train services beyond Oyo State to enhance economic productivity.
Bunmi Jenyo, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, made the call while welcoming passengers of the state-sponsored “Imole Free Train Service” in Osogbo.
A statement by the ministry’s Information Officer, Ademiotan Adegbulugbe, highlighted Governor Ademola Adeleke’s vision for a modern rail system connecting Osun to other states.
“Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, is doing all within his power to ensure that train services that at the moment do not go beyond Oyo (State) are extended to Osun and beyond the state,” Jenyo said. “Getting that done will reduce the stress of having to travel by road. Train services all over the world are timely.”
He said the free train service, which brought holidaymakers from Lagos to Osogbo, reflected the governor’s commitment to providing affordable and convenient travel options for residents.
“This train that came from Lagos is not a regular train service. There is a lot the Nigerian Railway Corporation will have to do to improve the rail line, especially with the new arrangement done on the Lagos/Ibadan corridor. That should be extended to Osun. The governor is also looking at the metropolitan train in the future for Osun.
“The governor has been doing a lot to transform Osun, not only the state capital but the entire state. The impact of this administration is across the 332 wards in the state,” he said.
The holidaymakers, who travelled from Ido, Lagos State, arrived in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday evening. The free train service is part of the state’s initiative to ease holiday travel and promote tourism.
