The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced the launch of a revamped passport application process starting January 8, 2024.

“We are excited to introduce this long-awaited automation,” Minister Tunji-Ojo said during a recent inspection of NIS facilities.
“This initiative aligns with the President's vision of Renewed Hope by simplifying and streamlining the passport application process for Nigerians.”
The online platform will significantly reduce human contact and expedite processing times.
Applicants will be able to upload their passport photos and supporting documents directly, minimizing the risk of fraudulent applications.
Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening security by deploying document verification officers across all local government areas.
“We are committed to eliminating document fraud and ensuring the integrity of the Nigerian passport,” he stated.
Key Features of the Online Passport Application:
- Online application portal: Allows applicants to submit all necessary information and documents digitally.
- Reduced human contact: Minimizes the need for physical visits to NIS offices.
- Faster processing times: The streamlined process aims to expedite passport issuance.
- Enhanced security measures: Document verification officers and improved technology detect fraudulent applications.
