LAGOS, Nigeria (NAN) - A tragic auto accident along the Trade Fair–Agbara route at Iyana Era Bus Stop, Lagos State, has left one person dead and several others injured.
The incident involved a blue Mack truck, with the registration number AKD 579 XM, and a Lexus sedan, registered as LSR 545 JN, occurring at the Iyana Era bus stop.
Elizabeth Jayeola, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, confirmed the unfortunate event on Monday, stating that five adults were involved in the crash.
In a statement released on the agency's official page, Jayeola attributed the accident to excessive speed and loss of control.
The injured individuals were transported to Alimosho General Hospital for treatment, while the deceased, who remained trapped in the vehicle, was towed to the Ijanikin Police Station.
The statement noted, “Initial investigations by the FRSC indicate the accident resulted from speed violation and loss of control, despite favorable road conditions. The collision's violent force led to the death of one male adult, with two others suffering various injuries."
Emergency responders arrived at the scene just four minutes after being alerted and promptly managed the situation. The injured were quickly referred for medical care at Alimosho General Hospital.
To maintain public safety and minimize disruption from the growing crowd, the Lexus containing the deceased was towed away by an Ayab recovery truck to the Ijanikin Police Station. The FRSC also cleared the Mack truck from the roadway, allowing traffic to resume.
Kehinde Hamzat, the FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, extended his heartfelt sympathies to the deceased's family and wished the injured a swift recovery.
He emphasized the Corps' dedication to road safety and urged all drivers to refrain from speeding and to always keep their vehicles under full control.
