The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State and its governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi for the November 16 governorship election have disagreed over the composition of the party’s campaign council.
Ajayi, in a statement on Monday by his media aide, Sam Ogunmusi, Ajayi had unveiled his campaign council with a former PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West), Dr Eddy Olafeso, as chairman.
But the party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Kennedy Peretei, differ with Ajayi, rejecting his campaign council.
Peretei said, “The announcement by one Samuel Ogunmusi appointing persons to coordinate the campaigns of H.E. Agboola Ajayi for the November election is not only embarrassing but a violation of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended).
“Articles 46(1) and 40(1)(a)(b) and (c) do not permit such announcement coming from individuals not known to the party. To such an extent, all the supposed announcements are null, void and of no effect.
“Our party is an organised party and guided by the rule of law. At the appropriate time, appointments for the local campaign council will be made public.”
Ajayi, a former deputy governor to the late governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, will be facing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress, who was also Akeredolu’s deputy until December last year when Akeredolu passed on.
