The Federal High Court in Abuja is set to commence the hearing of a lawsuit filed by Jimoh Ibrahim on Tuesday, May 14.
The suit calls for the annulment of the primary election that resulted in the emergence of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the governorship candidate for Ondo State.
Ibrahim, a current senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, was a contender in the election held on April 20, 2024.
He maintains that the election was not credible and does not meet legal standards, therefore, he is demanding its cancellation and a fresh election. This has caused concern among party members and leaders, who fear that mishandling the situation could result in losing the state to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Efforts have been made by the party's leadership at both state and national levels to persuade Jimoh Ibrahim, but he remains steadfast in his stance. If the issue remains unresolved, it may lead to the APC not fielding a candidate in the upcoming November governorship election in Ondo State.
Despite attempts to appease him, Jimoh Ibrahim is determined to continue his fight, as his team members are unwavering in their decision to challenge the primary election outcome.
The party leadership, however, remains firm in their choice and is reluctant to pursue legal avenues, as they assert that the election process was overseen and concluded by the party leadership.
