Nigerian football icon Jay-Jay Okocha has shared advice with Victor Osimhen amid growing speculation about the forward's future following a record-setting loan at Galatasaray.
In an interview with Turkish broadcaster TRT Spor via Haberler, the ex-Fenerbahçe star encouraged Osimhen to weigh the emotional and professional fulfillment he has experienced in Turkey, implying that remaining with Galatasaray could be a wise choice, even if it requires personal sacrifices.
"Turkey is an excellent place to play and enjoy football," Okocha stated. "Sometimes, sacrifices are necessary when making choices in football.
Osimhen had a fantastic season at Galatasaray. Ultimately, he is happy there. Why shouldn’t he stay with the team? I love Turkey. He loves it as well."
Osimhen, who recently wrapped up his loan from Napoli, netted his 37th goal of the season during Galatasaray’s 2–0 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir on Saturday, finishing a remarkable campaign in which the Turkish club secured both the league and cup titles.
Galatasaray’s coach Okan Buruk recognized that the player's future remains in limbo, but commended his impact and expressed hope that he would continue with the team.
In a show of support, Galatasaray fans have initiated a global #staywithus campaign, which features a billboard message in Times Square. While Osimhen has not publicly addressed where he will play next season, his agent reportedly has received a new contract offer from Galatasaray worth €15 million per year, a €3 million increase from his current salary, potentially making him the highest-paid player in the club's history.
When asked if he had any insight into Osimhen's next move, Okocha remained tight-lipped, saying, "I don’t know. Wherever he chooses to go, I wish him the best." Reflecting on his own time in Turkey, Okocha referred to it as “a wonderful two years,” reminiscing fondly about the fans and local cuisine, and he concluded with a heartfelt message to fans of his former club, saying, “The greatest is Fener.”
