Oil companies are reportedly purchasing diesel from illegal refineries in the Niger Delta region, according to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.
The claim was made during the Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week Conference in Abuja and was not disputed by the oil companies present.
Tantita Security Services is a company based in Warri, Delta State, specializing in providing security solutions for the oil and gas industry.
It currently provides security services to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
During a panel discussion at the conference, Capt. Warredi Enisuoh, the Executive Director of Operations and Technical at Tantita Security Services, stated that illegal refineries produce large quantities of diesel and are patronized not only by smugglers but also by oil companies.
He also attributed the increase in diesel prices to the crackdown on these illegal refineries by Tantita and other security agencies.
Enisuoh emphasized the need to focus on local communities to provide Nigerian content solutions to meet energy demand, particularly in terms of infrastructure.
He highlighted that a significant portion of the diesel available at fuel stations is produced by the local communities, and even oil companies are reportedly among their customers.
He urged for a more accurate understanding of the situation and emphasized the importance of addressing the involvement of local communities in the production and distribution of diesel.
