As May 29 approaches in Nigeria, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo released four demands on Wednesday for President-elect Bola Tinubu to fulfill in order to appease Igbos.
Nnamdi Kanu, the head of IPOB, should be fully released, according to Okechukwu Isiguzoro, secretary general of Ohanaeze.
Isiguzoro predicted that Kanu's release would bring back stability and harmony to the region.
He pointed out that Tinubu must see to it that the next Senate President of Nigeria comes from the Southeast.
The Ohanaeze leader said Tinubu had to see to it that the sixth state in the Southeast became a reality.
Isiguzoro asserts that "Tinubu is a reformist and a strategist; his administration would differ from Buhari's.
"The only issue Tinubu has is age on his side, and the majority of those who prevented Buhari from succeeding are lining up behind him due to some of the difficulties he will face after the 2023 election.
"In order for the Southeast to accept Tinubu as President of Nigeria and for Ndigbos to rise tall and defend his mandate, Tinubu must satisfy the region's four demands.
"The first is that Tinubu must unconditionally release Nnamdi Kanu in order to restore peace and security in the Southeast, regardless of whether he pardons him during his acceptance speech from Eagles Square or uses the power of the presidency to secure his release.
"Second, Tinubu must ensure that he balances the Muslim-Muslim ticket by appointing a Christian from the Southeast as senate president in order to begin the mending process. The Senate President should not be a senior senator who lacks the moral fiber to defend the national interest.
"Because the ranking Senators have questionable backgrounds and are unable to speak for Ndigbos' interests, we are requesting that the Senate change its regulations to permit newcomers.
"Thirdly, Ohanaeze already has a plan for the region's sixth state, so Tinubu needs to put political structures in place to make sure Ndigbo understand the promise that Buhari made to us covertly that he would see to it that the region receives one.
"The reopening of the Calabar wharf, dredging of the Azumiri River, giving IPOB members amnesty, and compensating families of those slain over time are just a few of the economic gateways that the President-elect must see to."
